What Is Classified As Purified Water?

At The Distilled Water Company, we pride ourselves on offering the highest quality water products available on the market to customers across the UK. Our exceptional customer service is key to building long-term relationships with our clients.

When it comes to different types of water, people can easily become confused. We find customers continually asking what is purified water? Are distilled water and demineralised water the same thing? These questions seem to pop up all the time and we are here to help untangle confusion about the different types of water that we supply.

What Is Purified Water?

Purified water is a type of water that has been filtered to remove any impurities or contaminants generally found in it. Distilled water is the most common form of purified water – with this in mind, think of purified water as an umbrella term for purified water types. Purified water can go through processes including reverse osmosis, carbon filtering, ultra-filtration or electro deionization.

Types Of Purification Methods

Distillation

Distilled water is produced through the process of distillation which involves the boiling of water and then condensing of the vapour into a clean container. This process leaves all of the contaminants originally found in the water behind. Like all types of purified water, distilled water must be stored in a sterilised container to guarantee the absence of bacteria.

Double Distillation

This type of water is prepared by slowly boiling uncontaminated water. This type of water is so highly purified that it is often used for biochemistry and laboratory trace analysis.

Deionisation

This type of water goes through a chemical process that uses specially manufactured ion-exchange resin beds. This process dissolves all minerals and then recombines them to form pure water.

Demineralisation

Demineralisation is often used interchangeably with deionisation (the process above). This process generally removes all of the minerals that are found in natural water. Demineralised water is usually used for chemical processes including the creation of beauty products. Demineralised water is normally softer as the impurities with undesired salts are removed.

We are proud demineralised water and distilled water suppliers. If you would like to order either distilled or demineralised water from us, please do not hesitate to call us on 0845 500 4455.
