What Chemicals Are Removed By Distillation and Reverse Osmosis

At The Distilled Water Company, we provide a range of purified water products to customers across the UK. Both our distilled water and demineralised products go through the most rigorous processes to ensure the water you receive is of the highest grade.

Water from the mains supply contains numerous impurities and contaminants that make it completely unsuitable for specialised processes in the medical, cosmetics and automotive fields, amongst many others.

What Is In Normal Tap Water?

Water that comes out of your tap has gone through a number of process and has been exposed to a large number of chemicals in order to eliminate bacteria and other microorganisms.  You can generally find these contaminates in your tap water supply:

  • Chlorine
  • Fluorine compounds
  • THMs
  • Salts of arsenic, radium, aluminium, copper, lead, mercury, cadmium and barium
  • Hormones
  • Nitrates
  • Pesticides

What Does Reverse Osmosis Do?

Reverse osmosis creates what is known as demineralised or deionised water. Water is pushed through a semi-permeable reverse osmosis membrane leaving contaminants behind and only allowing pure water to pass through.

This process removes any molecular compounds smaller than the sizes of water molecules including salts, irons, manages, fluoride, lead and calcium. Reverse osmosis is extremely efficient in stripping general water of minerals.

What Does Distillation Do?

Distillation creates distilled water through the action of purifying the liquid through a process of cooling and heating. This process also removes chemicals similar to reverse osmosis but through a different means.

Distillation through its evaporation process removes any chemicals or organic materials with a higher boiling point than water. These impurities include bacteria, minerals, metals, volatile organic materials and nitrate. Distillation essentially strips water of both dangerous and valuable mineral compounds.

If you are looking for a distilled water supplier or a demineralised water supplier, you are in luck. As our name suggests, we stock and deliver both purified water types to business across London. If you are interested in purchasing distilled or demineralised water from us, please do not hesitate to gives us a call on 0845 500 4455.
