The Uses of Distilled Water
There are many uses for distilled water. Distilled water has no charge and attracts minerals which have a positive charge, which makes it ideal for cleaning and use in labs as well as machines.
The lack of mineral content means that there are no minerals left when the water evaporates. This gives distilled water the advantage over tap water for use in any steam generating equipment.
So, where would we recommend using distilled water? Well, here is our list of the best uses of distilled water.
1. Engines: minerals found in tap and spring water can be good for our bodies but may be corrosive to any metals, especially those found in engines. Using distilled water to cool engines works really well and also serves to clean the engine as it absorbs the minerals. It’s is also commonly used in lead-acid batteries which are commonly found in older car and truck models.
2. Laboratories: Distilled water is pure H2O, this means that is will not contaminate any experiments with other minerals or molecules.
3. Steam Irons: a regular household chore: Ironing your clothes. To help your iron last longer, use distilled water. It will help prevent any mineral build-up inside the iron as well as limiting the corrosion in the iron itself.
4. Humidifiers: Humidifiers such as room humidifiers, piano humidifiers and Constant Positive Airway pressure humidifiers should use distilled water in order to protect them from excess mineral build up.
